Market News
The rural real estate market started off this spring with a good selection of properties for sale. The buyers however were hesitant and expressed some of the lowest levels of confidence we had seen.
As time elapsed buyer confidence improved and properties started to sell. The availability of finance has initially been a stumbling block for some deals. On a whole it’s taking longer to get finance approved, with more due diligence required than in the past. The dealings that we have had with banks getting properties across the line have been very positive.
Our recent Auctions saw no properties sell under the hammer but we were able to successfully negotiate deals within a few hours of the properties being handed in. This reinforces our belief in the Auction process and it’s ability to identify the buyers.
There have been a wide range in values, but as always the good land stays in demand and continues to fetch good prices.

MEET THE team
The Matamata based real-estate agent is a leading chicken farm specialist, therefore the person to talk with when buying or selling chicken farms.
Peter’s in-depth knowledge of the industry comes from his personal hands on experience as a current chicken farm owner. His farm alone rears in excess of 1.6 million birds per year. Peter is also the current chairman of the Growers Executive and an executive member of The New Zealand Poultry Meat Produces Society. His level of expertise is second to none. Prior to his involvement with chickens Peter had a very successful career as a dairy farmer, owning a large dairy unit near Matamata.
After 23 years in real estate as a rural specialist and an auctioneer – incorporating the knowledge and experience that can only be gained from having skin in the game, there are very few if any that could claim to be better qualified.
Peter’s impressive track record speaks for itself. His friendly reputable manner and common sense approach make Peter very easy to work with.
Once back home in New Zealand he took a break from real estate concentrating instead on dairy farming. Throughout his career in farming Rex’s contribution to sustainable farming has been recognised by the industry. His wife Sharon and he have been the recipient of national environmental sustainability and economic performance awards. They currently own a 500 cow dairy unit near Matamata that consistently operates in the top 1 or 2% of New Zealand farms. He is also actively involved in Fonterra, and often hosts both domestic and International groups; the most significant was hosting an EU (European Union) audit.
12 years ago Rex returned to selling real estate, and has established himself in the Matamata district. He is knowledgeable, genuine and reliable, and thrives on exceeding his client’s expectations. His passion for problem solving and always striving to exceed his client’s expectations whist providing the best possible service have been the building blocks of his real estate career.
